Are You?
Disabled? Disadvantaged? Depressed? Disgusted? If you’re any one, or all, of these I’d like to talk with you. Maybe, I can give you that “breath of fresh air” you’ve been looking for. There is life after any negative situation! Regardless of what the situation is. Even the onset of a disability!
The following story, (a thumbnail sketch of what happened to me,) is part of why I’m in the “valued asset” category of professional counselors.
On February 21, 1982, I was involved in a tremendous explosion by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I lost my left leg, left hand and part of that arm, all of the fingers of my right hand, all of my sense of smell, most of my hearing and both of my eyes! Then, the so-called “rehabilitation experts” visited my hospital room when I was little more than a bloody mass on the bed . Taking one look at me they declared to my mother, my sister and my first wife “There’s nothing we can do for him. He’s beyond rehabilitating!” And they walked out!!
This happened when I was 24 years old. I was a high school dropout, a drug dependent, antisocial criminal. And those were the good things that could be said about me!
Like it would do to most people, the “rehabilitation expert’s” words devastated me. But, unlike most people, I found a driving force in what they said that pushed me into deciding not to let my disabilities hold me back from living my life to the fullest!
Today, I’m a professional counselor and speaker, after earning my BS and MS degrees. People that get involved and start understanding what my counseling practice is all about can’t help but appreciate their situation with a more thankful reverence! My life’s experiences along with the education I gained since my trauma has taught me how to help people find solutions to their problems.
Instructing people how to look for and find the positive elements in their life is what I do best. I can usually teach them how to “appreciate” what they still have, instead of focusing on what they have lost.
Please, remember. All I am is an information provider. What you do with this information, or if you do anything with it, is totally your decision! Think about it and read everything carefully before you commit.
I’m looking forward to helping you create a “New Life.”
But I’ll expect you to do your part!
